Are you the type of person that needs a backup plan for your backup plan?

Many people have a tendency to over prepare for a world of unknowns only to find that their plans could have never prepared them for the situation they are facing. Oftentimes, the reason that people feel the need to formulate a plan A, B, and C is to increase their own sense of certainty and security.

Having all of the answers to questions that have not even been asked is a way of life for many people. Some people put considerable effort, time, money, and energy into fixing problems that never end up happening. They have conversations that end up being unnecessary. Rather than preparing for a never ending list of scenarios, try using visualization to increase your sense of certainty. Often time visualization is used to anticipate a specific result, but it can also be used to envision feelings like certainty.

Here is how you can use visualization to increase certainty:

Visualize your ability to handle all situations. Imagine yourself embodying the traits of perceptiveness, resourcefulness, resilience and creativity to get your through life’s worst events and know that if plans fail or life throws you a curveball, you have confidence in your own abilities to make it through.

Visualize having faith in humanity. See yourself trusting others, being vulnerable enough to admit mistakes and shortfalls, and having the courage to accept assistance or ask for help. Believe that people are genuine and good. Envision your relationships and connections getting you through any problem you have.

Visualize yourself trusting that the Universe has your back.  Embrace the law of attraction, power of a creator, quantum physics, the forces that be, etc. If you have any sort of spiritual connection, use it to seek certainty that there is energy working in your favor. This involves the difficult task of trusting that the unfavorable events and circumstances are equally important in the grand scheme of your life and may even be leading you to your desired goal.

Having the confidence that you will be able to find the answers in the moment and think on your feet is more important that “being prepared” in advance. Since you cannot anticipate all that comes your way, visualizing a life where you trust in yourself, others, and the universe at large will bring you a sense of certainty in all situations.

Honing in on your ability to use visualization is part of EnlightenMENTE’s Commit to Thrive Program. Creating a vision for your desired outcomes in the first step in creating a better life for yourself and those around you. Visualization is a major component of our program as it is used by most people who live deliberately.
